Your favorite and least favorite Mint music video and why

January 7, 2009 by kerilewis

Favorite = U Send Me Swingin'

Personally, this is hands down the best Mint video. The lighting, the scene with the black background and everyone's eyes closed sitting in a V" shape on the stools while the microphone just keeps swingin' and its all in black and white. Also I love how everytime before a new verse is coming up after a chorus, the mic swings, and a new scene pops up from the side of it. The scene where they are grooving in the brown cabin-like room and the actual soundstage where they got the little steps going while they play and lighting zooms across the floor. etc. Everything about this video is classic. This video was WELL directed with great shots. Y'all remember around this time period, when the jazzy white/black videos became sort of popular among huge R&B hits (Mary J Blige - Love No Limit, Babyface - For The Cool In You, Jodeci - Lately etc.) Well, easily Mint Condition had the best one.

Least Favorite = Forever In Your Eyes

Wasn't really feeling this one. I know its like a continuation of the Pretty Brown Eyes video, but some parts looked cheesy, especially when their bodies were outlined in blue and shadowed looking like they were on Star Trek. And some of the background effects I wasn't feeling too much. Regardless tho, the song is obviously amazing, but the video was just "ehh".

What about y'all?

Re: Comparison

December 14, 2008 by kerilewis

Stokely voice is more clearer, can hit more notes, can change notes like nothing, and has a waaaaaay better range and projection than Raphael. Raphael has a good voice but it's one high "tenored", soft spoken voice. Raphael is really good at like 2 categories when comparing vocals. Stokley is good at like 6.

Stokely can sing in a low baritone (such as in 'Fallin Apart') or very a high voice ('My Dear', 'Queen of Come and Go Away', 'Just The Man 4 U' etc.) or his regular voice ('U Send Me Swingin', 'I'm Ready') he is also known to be able to change from the very low notes to high notes and back, in quickness (the adlibing at the end of the orginal version of 'So Fine'...around the 5:16-5:20 mark.....LOL or the very last 12 second lond held note on 'On & On'). Also his projection is clearer and has more range which is displayed in the live medley performance on "Someone to Love" on BET's planetgroove that I'm pretty sure we all seen on youtube and back in the day on TV. Or even on any ad-libing section of a song where he is show casing his vocals, such as 'Single To Mingle (Live)', 'If You Love Me', 'On And On' etc.

LOL. When it comes to R&B music listening, I know vocals like the back of my hand. and Mr. Stokley Williams is a top 5 male vocalist of 90's era artists. To me their voices don't sound the same at all are are very easily to differentiate. Vocally, Stoke is easily better than Raph. I'd put Kevon Edmonds from After 7 over Raphael easily.

........
It's not often that a singer is so honest about his artistic insecurities. "I'm my own worst critic," Ginuwine confides. "I never thought I had a great voice, like a Stokely from Mint Condition. Man, I'd love to sound like him. But I'm not a 'sanger.' I think I can hold a note enough to get my point across--the live show is really what I'm all about." - Ginuwine.

December 13, 2008 by kerilewis

Can't believe this one wasn't mentioned. Mint did background vocals for this single back in 93. You can hear Stokley doing adlibs on the 2nd verse.

What made you choose the name keri Lewis
You can't be a true mint fan and not know the answer to this
It is Jeff Allen's son BTW are you male or female and how old are you??
Also.....Baile de febrero was already used also because I used it
But I like Asher In Rio a little bit better

-luvdamint

I know Jeff's usually composes the musical interludes on the albums, and he has a son that a teenager, but I never knew he names them after his son....

Re: Interesting Read about Mint Condition

November 28, 2008 by kerilewis

Stokley is a real dude for not taking that solo route and ditching the group.

And Rick is real too for making real music and not that t-pain garbage like he says. Rick also says "some of the guys in the group wanna go too commercial" and he wont let it happen... I wonder who it is?????
