April 7, 2007 will be a day to remember because all of the drama that went down that day.
Saturday afternoon, Tiffany picked me up from my hotel, as we planned to go the store to get something warm to wear and then head out to the venue(The weather was dreadful...it was raining and the temperature dropped 30 plus degrees from the original forecast)...The tix for the show said the show would go on rain or shine so I didn't give it a second thought. As we were headed towards the store I asked had she heard from Catina and Tiffany replied, "No, but I can call her." She did so and found that Catina and the other ladies were at Fuddrucker's restaurant. Catina asked that we swing by. We went by to say our "howdies". I had met Kim, Pat, Shanel, Sandra and Melissa the night before at the first night of the Urban Music Festival....So, I was meeting Catina and Caprice for the first time. An hour into hanging out, Tracie showed up with her Cousin. We hung out a little more when Tiffany's phone rings...It was my husband telling me Jeff T. (Mint's manager) wanted me to know the show is cancelled and to call him. WTF!!! I won't get to see them perform?? My heart dropped and everyone asked what was wrong because I wear my emotions on my sleeve they saw the distress in my face. I told them the message and they looked dismayed and questions began. I told them I had to call Jeff T. and find out what is up. Since there was not going to be a show Tiffany and I discussed moving the party up from 10pm(its original time) to 8pm. Tiffany made a call to Dave and Buster's , while I set the game plan in motion again. I talked to Jeff T. and he told me that he was very disappointed and he knew how far I had travelled to see the fellas and he had a few of them committed to coming out to my shindig. Stokley was feeling under the weather with a scratchy throat so he wasn't able to confirm if he'd feel like coming out. Larry was doing homework and definitely wouldn't attend. I told him "Its all good, and we would see them later" We continued our long lunch and then parted ways til time for the party at Dave and Buster's.
I had this idea about all the ladies wearing Fedora's and supplied those who didn't have one at the restaurant. We donned our hats and waited to be seated. At first the Dave and Buster Manager was confused with where to seat us, but after a few minutes he got it together. All and All I was pleased that we were seated together in the back corner of the restaurant between the bar and games. There was another party but the manager made them move. By now its 9pm and the fellas should had been here, so I told everyone to wait a few more minutes before ordering and if they didn't come we would order without them. No sign of them but only 9 minutes had passed , so we ordered...and no sooner did our food arrive so did Jeff, Rick, O'dell ,Brian(their drummer) and Jeff T(their manager).
I quickly jumped up and greeted them and commenced to breaking the ice(something a great hostess does) Everyone began mingling amongst each other...taking pix, talking and the fellas signed a few autographs, too. At first the ladies seemed awe struck til the fellas began walking around the table to say hello and giving hugs. The fellas ordered their food and drinks and Rick sat with my husband and me as he ate. We talked about our hometown Chicago and I hadn't been there in a long time that I forgot about gang signs, etc.
Rick was calling me folks because of the way my fedora was tilted on my head and he is throwing a gang sign up in one of the photos he took with me, lol.
O'dell sat at the bar...I had to go there and tell him how I quit him in myspace because he hadn't responded to any of my messages. He asked me not to quit him and he promised to start responding, lol!
Jeff wore his hat down low over his eyes, looking like mushmouth from the Fat Albert gang, with a headset in his ear...my husband asked him what music he was listening to and he said it was his phone.
About 30 minutes later Stokley arrived. I saw him coming around the corner and told Tiffany, "Look who is here". He was swamped by the ladies as the flashbulbs starting going off and pix were being taken left and right. Some pretty bodacious females did some unlady like things, but I won't go into detail. Some people spotted Stokley as he came in the restaurant and followed him all the way to where our party was taken place and started screaming, "I told you that was him!!! IT IS HIM!!" and they too swarmed in for pix.
When he finished with them I introduced myself and we hugged(all of the fellas are affectionate) I then went on my way and continued partying. Catina came up to me and told me that it was my chance to talk to him and told me to go down to where he was...soooo
I went to him and told him that I was told to come bother him and then I told him that my memory of him was when they came to Orlando in 2005 and he asked the crowd "Any requests?" and I screamed, "This day, this minute, right now" and for some strange reason he heard me through all the screams and said, "This day this minute right now?? NO!", but during the breakdown of Love's Holiday he sang "This day...this minute...right now" TEASE and he said, "NO, I didn't do that?!" and started laughing and then he thought about it and said that "I can stare at someone and not see them" and he hugged me.
I could tell all that went on that night but it is too much to remember...I do know they showed up at 9:20pm and left at 1:30pm...
The fellas were pleased with the showing of love from the group of ladies and being treated to a meal. They all Thanked me and told me they had FUN!! I did tell them all that this was it for me that if they don't come to Florida I am going to quittem!!
Everyone, accept Rick, said they would love to come back to Florida...Rick said that Florida doesn't hold it down for Mint Condition....I BEG TO DIFFER! As a matter of fact, Stokley said, " We will try to be there in the next 3 months." We will see, at any rate...they are on alert, lol!
