Nah, I'm probably the only one who will disagree. I like when instruments are being showcased... it really shows that they are a band and not just another singing group. To me, when they don't play in their videos, yes the videos are still good, but I prefer them to play their instruments while having fun at the same time which makes the video more live and interesting.
It's like Stevie Wonder not playing a piano in his videos or Earth Wind and Fire not playing in their videos and doing "acting" instead. I really wouldn't enjoy it as much and doesn't really show case their musicianship. (Even though they are not really playing in the videos.)
And as much as I love "Someone to Love", the video is barely average to me.....dancing in some sand desert with open chested shirts, then playing basketball, then chillin' and leaning up on a taxi, while Larry is using drum sticks to hip up a mail box ain't really do it for me (Larry doesn't even play the drums..he play keys!!!). Now I know this was a 1994 summertime song and were trying to have fun, but I really wasn't feeling it like that. The only person that had an instrument and was playing was Jeff and Rick and bit. They should of done a video something like performance at a large venue while showing scenes of the different people in the audience showing their affection for each other or something like that.
That's why my favorite videos are "Swingin" and "What Kind Of Man". Nothing but raw instrumentation with the video to match what the song is saying. In these videos, nobody gets of the stage to go dance, or beat up a mailbox. LOL.
Sorry for writing an essay.
