Caprice at BB Kings in NYC

Lookee here...lookee here! Now...all that know me...KNOW...how many times I've been to a Mint Condition concert so this story shouldn't be any different from any other but of course this one will have more flair! (I'm filthy) And I just MIGHT give a little detail here and there. Let's begin...
The last time I saw M.C. in concert was October of 2007. Why, you ask? Well let me tell you why...I started a new business that keeps me busy 24/7 so the "call to duty" had me preoccupied but that didn't make me love them any less..cause you know I'll travel to see them in a heart beat! They're THAT worth the travel time baby! Ya feel me?? Okay...enough of the commentary...I'm gonna lay it down to Chinatown and give you the low down on the show-down! Are you ready? Of course you are. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
I left work a little later than I wanted to because dammit...they gave me work at 10 minutes to 4 (didn't someone tell them I had plans?? geez). So after finishin up, I freshened up and changed into my "concert" clothes, I was READY! And I have to add this before I even continue, my co-worker Dennis made a comment about my attire. I had on my tweed brown & beige newsboy (tipped to the side on the right of thangs...if ya know me...ya know!), my capri jeans and sparkly t-shirt with a new white jacket (and I am not going to get into the story of WHY I got a new jacket dammit! LEAVE IT ALONE! ha ha) Anyway...I heard my co-worker Dennis aka Zig say..."oh she got her man killin jeans on!" That boy is a stone cold trip and lawd by the end of the night...I knows why he say that me, Miss Celie! LOL
Anywhoo...so I finally meet up with my homegirl...my biz partner...my sistah on the 1's and 2's, Miss Chante aka Violetsyn (what's up girl, HOLLAAAAA) and we head into the club but of course we're stopped by security because THEY BE TRIPPIN ALL UP AND THROUGH! So we went on a mission: 1 - we were NOT standing on any line; 2 we were some HUNGRY sistahs that had to get some nourishment (we love food!-LOL); and 3 - DAMMIT I'M AIN'T STANDING ON NO LINE! Now...Mint is worth any line-standing you can get yourself into, but like I said...WE WAS HUNGRY! So...the guy at the door asks 'are you here for the show?' 'no we are here for dinner. what show? who's playing?' 'oh, Mint Condition!' "what?? are there still tickets available?" This mission is aborted at this point...I will give no further details to our operation! It will self destruct in 3-2.... So...we step in, get seated, eat (cause we's hungry) and chill in the cut! Now...ask me WHY there were other people that were waiting at the bar that entered the "Lucille Grill" and didn't stand on the line outside either? Go figure that!? (scratching temple) OH WELL...We in before everyone else! Yea baby.
So...cuttin to the chase...we see peoples we know (What's up SIR MINT...TONYA). We even met people on the spot (Hey CHRISTINE)! We secure our spots in the usual place (in front of the stage because personally...I am a little peoples and I needs to see, ya hear me??) The show opens with Tara Michel's son. What a talented young buck he is!! Then Miss Tara comes out and works the crowd as she knows best. She has opened for Mint in the past so it was a treat to see her again. Of course there were some that wanted MINT RIGHT NOW, but all good things come to those who wait. After Tara, a local Minnesota band surprised us with their presence named, JUST LIVE, and tore that mutha up!! They wanna make me go to Minnie just to check them out in their stopping grounds! WOW! Brothas was on point and definitely hyped the crowd up in preparation for our Mint Men!
Now...there were some in the audience that I've met that have NEVER seen Mint live...have NEVER met them so they were in the state I was 2 years ago when I saw them the first time at the Night of Elegance event in Virginia, but you know me...I'm cool like...I flow like that...so they never saw how excited I was! (tippin my hat, thank ya). WELL!! Mint finally hit the stage and lawd have mercy on my soul...they tore it to shreds! We were able to see a set list and I have to say...it was on point. Because Mint is so "cool like that" they even gave a moment to give a man in the crowd a chance to propose to his girl! Go ahead...say it...AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! LOL
Whew! Don't ask me the exact set list, but I'm gonna give you what I remember: GRATITUDE (from their new CD, "E-Life"); SWINGIN; SOMEONE TO LOVE; FOREVER IN YOUR EYES; WHAT YOU BRING TO THE PARTY; IT'S HARD and on and on and of course the encore of BREAKIN MY HEART! As usual, Stokley was on fire vocally and so gracious from the love the crowd was givin. And that damn Jeff, Odell, Rick and Lawrence...mhm mhm mhm. That's all I'm sayin! I'm tellin you...I thought they would never stop and I damn sure didn't want them to.
Eventually, I got a chance to say my hellos and get my hugs (and I'm gonna keep it at that) because a sistah was networking SYNCHRONIZED RHYTHM to left and to the right of me so you KNOW I never stop working! It was so wonderful to get the love I received from these gentlemen as I always do because...hello...who doesn't know STARBRITE! (damn...she's vain...she probably think this blog is about her...DOESN'T SHE??)
All I have to say is this...if you've NEVER gone to an M.C. show...get the hell out of the house when they come to your town and GO!! And tell 'em Starbrite sentcha
